Ventilated façades


A ventilated facade is a means of covering a building; the porcelain stoneware surface is anchored to the wall of the building thanks to an aluminium structure and mechanical anchorage devices.


This system meets the demands of new architectural concepts, carefully enhancing the aesthetic effects of buildings while, at the same time, keeping energy consumption low. Ventilated façades (as well as ventilated walls and curtain walls) are tailored to the need to increase the efficiency of buildings and rationalise the construction process.


A ventilation gap is thus created between the two surfaces; the air in the chamber is moved by convection generating a micro-ventilation effect which allows the walls of the building to breathe. The installation of a suitable insulating layer eliminates thermal bridges, reduces heat dispersion in winter and heat accumulation in the summer; all this to the advantage of energy savings and the comfort of the people in the building.

  HY-PRO24 technology for ventilated façades

 

Mirage has put in place innovative technology to treat porcelain stoneware with titanium dioxide (TiO2). This substance is applied hot and inserted directly into the crystalline structure of the material's surface, creating a material that becomes an integral part of the ceramic product itself. One advantage of ventilated façades is that the surface becomes ultra-hydrophilic, providing vertical external walls with a self-cleaning effect. Dirt and polluting elements are passively removed by rain and therefore easily washed away from vertically-installed façades.

A ventilated façade is made up of a series of functional layers:
 

  1. wall support layer

  2. insulation layer

  3. ventilation layer

  4. load-bearing structure

  5. external finish (or covering)

The structures are studied down to the smallest details and are anchored to the support in such a way as to guarantee that the only loads that bear on the structures are the weight (of the structure and facing) and the wind (pressure and depression).
The calculations are based on the standards and certifications of the single components obtained from European institutes in accordance with the regulations currently in force.
