Chromatic stability

The stability of the tile’s colours, which must not be affected by exposure to sunlight, the weather or smog.

Colour Shade Variation

The "colour shade variation" indicates the degree of the shading of a tile’s colour in a given collection. Mirage has 4 coefficients of shading: V1 for products with an even appearance, V2 for products with slight shading, V3 for products with more marked shading, and V4 for products with very marked shading.


Decoration on mesh backing

Decoration in the form of modules or sheets; the back and the edge of the tiles are fixed onto a mesh backing that becomes part of the decoration itself, turning into a module designed to make tiling easier.



The Ecolabel is a European Union scheme designed to promote environmental sustainability by rewarding the best products and services from an eco-friendly standpoint. It certifies the reduced environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle according to strict eco-friendly parameters and specifications set down by the European Community. All Mirage collections are Ecolabel certified.


Fire resistance

The tile’s ability to resist fire and flames. Ceramic tiles are fireproof at all temperatures, they are not flammable and do not release toxic substances (Class 5).


The final stage in the production process when the raw material is baked at temperatures in excess of 1250 °C for a length of time that depends on the collection, thus becoming a full body product that is exceptionally hard and has superior mechanical features.

Frost resistance

The tile’s ability to resist damage caused by freezing/defrosting. Resistance to freezing depends on the tile’s porosity and level of water absorption. The frost proof test is defined in accordance with EN ISO tests (EN ISO 10545-12).



Manufacturing dimension for tiles whose actual (measured) size must be in line with the tolerances listed in the applicable regulations.


The material used during tiling to fill the joints between the tiles.



LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a voluntary rating system aiming to promote the design and the construction of sustainable buildings. Leed standards are acknowledged internationally and state the requisites for erecting eco-friendly buildings that are sustainable and self-sufficient in terms of their energy needs and have a low impact on the environment at all stages of their life. All the products in the Mirage catalogue are Leed Compliant and can help obtain up to 10 Leed points depending on the product chosen.



Mirage uses the “M” gauge to guarantee the various shape in a collection can be fitted with a 2mm joint, like any shapes in other collections that have the same gauge.


Non slip surface

Ceramic surfaces that guarantee the safety of pedestrians when there is low grip (such as on wet floors). Refer to the specific Mirage table for more information.


Porcelain stoneware

Tiles with superior mechanical and chemical specifications and water absorption below 0.05%.


Volume of the pores capable of absorbing humidity compared to the volume of the tile body. (Also see “water absorption”).


Raised flooring

Flooring that is raised off the ground and fitted on a metal or plastic structure, forming a cavity where the services and the utilities can be run, guaranteeing maximum flexibility when designing homes or offices.

Resistance to chemicals

The tile’s ability to resist damage caused by chemicals, acids, alkalis and swimming pool chemicals, according to EN ISO tests (EN ISO 10545-13). Porcelain stoneware is not resistance to sulphuric acid.

Resistance to impact

The tile’s ability to resist the breaking of its entire structure or surface chipping as a result of a hard blow. The coefficient of restitution, i.e. the criteria for measuring resistance to impact, is set out in international standards (ISO 10545-5).

Resistance to thermal shock

The tile’s ability to resist rapid and extreme changes in temperature, as determined by EN ISO tests (EN ISO 10545 - 9).


Skirting tile

Trim tiles used along the bottom of a wall to protect and decorate it.


Tactile flooring

Flooring designed specifically to guide and inform the visually-impaired or blind using non-visual means.


Securing the tile to the intended surface using adhesive or mortar.


The tone indicates the shade of the colour of a given production batch of tiles. The tone is indicated by a letter associated with a number (e.g. B580), indicating the progressive production number and the tone identified for the product respectively.

Trim tiles

These special ceramic pieces have a three-dimensional shape specially designed to add the finishing touches to a floor or wall covering in rooms with specific needs, such as architectural design features or safety demands (such as steps or stairs, connecting pieces, end pieces, …).


Ventilated facade

A system for covering the external walls of a building using mechanical anchoring pieces to secure the porcelain stoneware surface to the wall of the building via a structure in aluminium.


Water absorption

Absorption indicates the amount of water that a tile can absorb, expressed as the percentage of the dry weight of the tile itself. A high water absorption rate indicates a porous structure. Compact structures, on the other hand, have a low water absorption rate. Water absorption is measured according to EN ISO 10545-3. Mirage porcelain stoneware tiles have an average absorption rate of less than 0.05%, guaranteeing their compact nature.

Water jet cutting

Precision cutting method using a jet of pressurised water capable of cutting into ceramic surfaces.
